LEGAL WAIVER FORMS FOR TEACHERS
I recently underwent a minor medical procedure, and before it happened I actually read every word of the legal waiver form. The form explained the chances of complications and or death occurring during or after the procedure. The form gave me an idea for something similar that should be used by schools and teachers at the beginning of the school year.
Teachers should hand out legal waiver forms for all parents and students to sign at the beginning of the school year. The forms would clearly indicate that there might be a chance that a particular student would not reach the desired achievement test scores by the end of the year.
The form would be similar to the following:
The undersigned parents and student hereby understand that there is no assurance that said student will achieve all the goals for the year that the school district has set forth. While the majority of students have reached their academic goals in my classroom for several consecutive years, a few students in previous classes have failed to do so. Those who have failed to reach the stated goals in past years usually did so because of a failing on their part or on the part of their parent.
As a teacher, I cannot be expected to achieve success with students who have completely incompetent parents, students who frequently miss class, students who have behavioral problems, students who have undiagnosed learning disabilities, students who have undergone traumatic life altering events during the said school year, students who purposely refuse to do required classwork or homework, students who have test taking phobias, students who never attained the required knowledge needed to understand this year’s work, students who have an aversion to my style of teaching, and any students who have emotional, psychological, physical, neurological, environmental, congenital, allergic, genetic, or any other characteristic that might possibly interfere with their achieving the required school year goals.
The chance that your student might have one of the above detriments to learning are probably very small. You can have the utmost trust in me as a professional to use my extensive educational expertise to make sure your child achieves to the best of their ability. Should your child not achieve the stated achievement test goals, you hereby hold me the teacher completely blameless and waive any rights to complain in any public communication form, be it Facebook, text, tweet, written, or verbal. In addition, should your child fall short of the stated goals, you will acknowledge that the failure was due to some shortcoming on your part as a parent, or on the part of said student.
I hope the coming school year is a wonderful experience for you and your child.
